Commodities

Oil edges lower, grains stay hot

Energy cools a bit, but agriculture and several industrial metals remain strong.

WTI crude slips 0.8% to $79.0, while Brent is basically flat at $84.94. Even so, both are up sharply over the week, with WTI up 9.6% and Brent up 11.3%.

Natural gas falls 1.0% to $2.895, and gasoline drops 5.7% to $3.1135. Gold loses 1.6% to $3,981.3999, silver falls 2.4% to 55.72, and platinum dips 0.4% to 1625.0.

Agriculture stays bid. Corn rises 3.6% to 463.5, wheat slips 0.5% but remains up 10.3% for the week at 674.25, and soybeans fall 0.7% to 1193.75 after a strong month.

Some commodities are still running hot on the longer view. Cocoa drops 5.2% to 5441.0, but it remains up 40.2% for the month. Copper is nearly flat at 6.2865 and stays above its 200-day average.
