Tech pushes stocks higher as Treasury yields keep rising
The Nasdaq outpaces the major indexes, while long bond yields climb and crypto slips.
The big picture. U.S. stocks finish higher across the board, with the S&P 500 up 0.7%, the Nasdaq up 1.1%, the Dow up 0.2%, and the Russell 2000 up 0.5%. Tech leads the tape, while Real Estate is the only sector in the red, down 0.3%.
The 10-year Treasury yield rises 0.6% to 5.311% and the 30-year yield rises 0.6% to 5.665%, keeping pressure on rate-sensitive assets. The VIX rises 1.4% to 15.52, while the VIX 9-day jumps 6.6% to 12.85.
Overseas, the Bovespa jumps 7.7% and Japan’s Nikkei adds 0.2%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rises 0.8%, while France’s CAC 40 falls 0.8% and China’s Shanghai Composite gains 0.3%.
Crypto finishes lower as Bitcoin falls 1.1% to 85,558.1 and the total crypto market cap drops 2.8% to $2.9T. Ether slips 0.9%, Solana loses 1.0%, and XRP falls 1.5%.
