Trump urges Congress to advance a fair crypto Clarity Act version
The White House event preceded a first CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee meeting and the push comes as the SEC and Treasury advance major crypto rules.
President Donald Trump used a White House gathering of technology and crypto executives to urge Congress to move on the crypto Clarity Act, calling for a “fair” version of the legislation.
CoinDesk reports Trump said Congress needs to take the next step on crypto market structure legislation, while noting the bill remains stuck in the U.S. Senate on a few contentious points that have drawn pushback from both Republicans and Democrats.
The event was held ahead of Thursday’s first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, with a roster that includes crypto executives and leaders from related prediction markets and artificial intelligence companies.
CoinDesk also notes Trump’s crypto initiatives are unfolding alongside other regulatory efforts, including an SEC proposal for major crypto rules and a Treasury Department proposal for its stablecoin approach.
At the same time, the report says the president is at the center of a clash over government ethics tied to the Clarity Act, with Democratic negotiators seeking limits on ethics that would constrain his crypto involvement and related personal business ties of senior officials.
